Transporta - Quirky World of Quarks

An Immersive and Educational Experiential Installation by Pico Pixels

Have you ever wondered about the mysteries of the universe? Transporta - Quirky World of Quarks aims to demystify the creation of the universe by focusing on the very beginning of time, space, and matter. Inspired by the concept of quarks, the first hypothesized particles that form the foundation of everything in the universe, Pico Pixels set out to create an installation that would entertain and educate visitors.

What sets Transporta apart is its unique approach to storytelling. The unassuming entrance to the secret portal is strategically located, blending into the environment to create a sense of mystery and intrigue. As visitors step inside, they are transported into a world where art and science collide.

The experiential journey is not only visually captivating but also educational and informative. Through the use of multi-sensorial technologies, visitors are encouraged to interact with the installation, touching, pushing, swinging, waving, and walking their way through the journey. Infrared sensors, accelerometers, range scanning lasers, and cameras capture data that activate various mediums, including lights, projections, and sounds, enhancing the overall ambience and interactivity.

One of the highlights of Transporta is the use of 3D printing to add a haptic experience to the journey. This additional layer of sensory engagement further immerses visitors in the world of quarks, making the experience truly unforgettable.

With a total area of 1000sqm, Transporta offers a 650sqm café and installations experience, as well as a 350sqm Quirky World of Quarks experience. The installation was held from 28 January to 24 February 2019 at the Incubator, Esplanade Singapore, in conjunction with iLight Singapore 2019.

Pico Pixels faced several challenges in bringing Transporta to life. Translating complex scientific concepts into a fun and entertaining learning experience required a delicate balance between accuracy and engagement. The team had to simplify dense and complicated information into bite-sized pieces that would capture attention and engage audiences of all ages.

Transporta - Quirky World of Quarks received the Bronze A' Design Award in the Event and Happening Design category in 2019. This prestigious award recognizes designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life. Pico Pixels' innovative approach to combining art, science, design, and technology in Transporta truly makes the world a better place.
